THE STORY
Arthur’s Tavern is a neighborhood steak house located on Washington Street, the main drag in Hoboken, NJ. The steak here is decent but for fan’s of Burger Conquest, it’s the Arthur’s burger that was the main influence behind the creation of the website. It’s our rated #1 Burger to beat. A good friend recently begged us for a return and what kind of burger blog would be to say no to the best burger?

THE BURGER
You’ll be glad to know that the $6.25 – 10 ounce monster that jump started the best burger website in the world, can still score a beef touchdown! Served on a very simple roll, the same kind the deli serves with a bacon, egg and cheese, that’s slightly charred, the burger at Arthur’s is delicious. It’s a juicy, perfectly cooked, old-school beef burger. Nothing fancy, no frills, just a burger. Unfortunately I tried to step out of the norm with pepper jack cheese and instantly regretted not ordering American or cheddar cheese. It just didn’t add the flavor I was looking for. Be sure to team up your burger with an order of “Arthur’s Famous Potatoes,” well-done. Honestly, they’re just chunk style burned hash-browns but they are damn good. The wedge salad was nothing to write home about but helped me from ordering a 2nd burger.

Go to Arthur’s. Order the burger. Love life.

Dave is going to kill me for this, but I am with Bram. The burger was pedestrian.

Being an East Coast burger guy- I go for the ketchup, yellow mustard, onion, pickle and tomato as the burger toppings of choice (as opposed to the Cali options of lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, etc). Here, I had to slice my own pickle (chips were not available). What’s worse, when we asked for mustard, they brought Gulden’s spicy brown mustard– we didn’t order hot dogs!!!

The saving grace was the unevenly toasted, slightly stale kaiser roll. The roll was toasted on the open flame where the burgers and steak are prepared and had some char in spots which added to the flavor and character. It definitely moved the burger up a few notches by adding to the character of the taste.

This is definitely a good burger, but since we live in a society that looks for flaws in our idols, the Arthur’s Burger dind’t live up to the expectation as the world champ.

I would call it more of a field goal that wins the game at the last second than a touchdown. For value, it gets a 10 hands down. The roll, although not particularly memorable, is toasted, which gives the burger a good texture. The burger was huge, but i didn’t find it particularly flavorful. A burger is like sex – even when it’s bad, it’s still great. So while my first Arthur’s burger was plenty good, I’d rate it somewhere around the upper middle of the pack.
