Burger Aid NYC – Please Help With Hurricane Sandy Relief

#BurgerAidNYC

Today the crew from The Food Film Festival served 450 FREE, hot, fresh Hamburgers to in the Rockaways to locals and relief workers in the area. We left behind another 1400 Burgers with the fantastic gentlemen from the Fisherman’s Dog Food Truck to continue to feed people with. All it took was a couple hours worth of phone calls & emails to set up and a full day of personal service. It was a small effort to try and help out those in need.

Whether you call it a super storm or a hurricane, either way Sandy caused a disaster. There are people all along the Eastern seaboard of the U.S. who lost their homes, cars, personal belongings and for some very unfortunate, family members. National, State & Local Governments are doing all they can to help along with the support of FEMA and other concerned volunteers who want nothing more to help their neighbors.

It’s only been one week and although the power has gone back on in some neighborhoods, water has been pumped out and clean up has begun, their are entire neighborhoods that have been ravaged. While there are still relief efforts happening, it’s not enough and we are far from done helping to rebuild. There are thousands without homes, without power, without food, clothing and heat. It’s getting colder every day which is only going to make relief efforts that much more difficult.

Schools have been turned into shelters for those who have lost their homes but students need to go back to school. In most of these neighborhoods, strict sundown curfews are being implemented. There is looting, fighting and violence that is happening as a result of the post storm conditions. There are cold, hungry, tired people who have lost their entire lives.

It’s very easy to help your community and neighbors to rebuild and escape from the horrors they’ve been dealt.

Make a phone call.
Send an email.
Share some information.
Spend some time.
Donate some money.
Please.

Fisherman’s Dog Food Truck will continue to cook & serve Burgers to the neighborhood as well as operate a 2nd truck as a soup kitchen to help delivery hot, fresh meals to the Rockaways.

  1. I think it’s very commendable how you are helping those in need during the aftermath of this terrible storm. Although you may see this as a small contribution, especially to those who have lost everything, it is a testament to your good nature and love for your city and surrounding neighbors. You should be proud of yourselves!!
