THE CONQUEST
You know that feeling of excitement you get when you uncover Eggs on an Easter Egg hunt, or finding quarters in the return bin of a soda machine or unlocking the feature that allows you to watch “Memento” in chronological order? It’s exhilarating and gets your heart racing. You can’t wait to do it again. The art of the treasure hunt reaches a deep part of our psyche that explodes when we hit the discovery moment. Couple that with finding awesome food and really, at some deep level, isn’t that what this blog is supposed to do?

Bobby Van’s Steakhouse. With 5 locations, it’s practically a NYC institution. If you want a classy environment without the need for opulence and a hearty, hearty meal centered around a a succulent, properly cooked, piece of Beef in the form of a Steak, put your money on Bobby Vans. It’s not cheap but it’s damn good and that’s the reason it’s on top of a lot of “best Steak in NYC” lists. It would stand to reason that a place with such high end cuts of Beef has a good Burger and they definitely do but it will set you back, at a minimum, $17 and served in a formal dining setting. If you’re looking for an affordable, fresh and inexpensive lunch, you are not walking into Bobby Vans. But now, you can walk BEHIND IT and get one of the best Steak Burgers in NYC for only $6.

WHAT?

YES, you read that right. Walk yourself into Times Square, turn onto 45th St, pass by Bobby Vans and turn down the alley next to the restaurant. All the way at the back of the alley you will find a set of glass doors. That’s BV’s Burger, a small, walk-up counter selling one thing, Burgers. Tasty, delicious, juicy Burgers cut from Steaks. BV’s Burgers is a 100% “in-the-know” restaurant.

THE BURGER
I’d heard rumors about this Burger and I certainly have no problem paying large sums of money for a tasty Burg. But, in general, I like to maintain the belief that the best Food items in the world cost less than 10 bucks. So for me, a Steakhouse Burger is something I rarely, rarely get because of the high sticker price.  Moreover, if I am in a Steakhouse, I am there because I want a Steak! Knowing how good the food is at Bobby Van’s Steakhouse, this one had to be tested out but don’t make the mistake I did, don’t go after lunch, they aren’t open.

There’s no seats as it’s just a counter but the adjoining court yard has lots of tables and who doesn’t want to sit outside on a nice day to eat lunch? The Burger is 1/2 LB sirloin patty, served on a large, white Sesame Seed Bun. It  comes with Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles and Ketchup. You can also add Mayo, Mustard & Chopped Onions for free or do a pay upgrade to include Sauteed Onions, Guacamole, Grilled Mushrooms, Bacon or Chili. The Burger has an amazing char grill flavor, just like Dad used to do in the backyard. The difference, he was NOT cutting his Ground Beef from Steaks!! It was cooked to a perfect Medium Rare and with a great melt on the Cheese. The patty is loosely packed and gives a soft, juicy and flavorful bite. It’s good, SO GOOD!

There’s a fast causal Cheeseburger located in the busiest, most overrun, touristy, corporate chain filled neighborhood in NYC, at the back of an alley and it’s only $6.50. That shining Beefy diamond is called BV’s Burger and it’s the best Steakhouse Burger in NYC.

I proudly welcome BV’s Burger to the OFFICIAL Burger Conquest TOP BURGERS IN NYC list!
