Lets Talk About the Little Beet Table Grassfed Burger

Is that bacon or the Burger sticking its tongue out at you? It’s the Happy Valley Grass-Fed Double Burger from Little Beet Table. The Burger is topped with Vermont cheddar, bacon, lettuce, tomato, special sauce and served with sweet potato on the side.

When I got invited there for lunch, I read the business description on the website:
“Modern restaurant offering organic, vegetarian-focused & gluten-free menu.” My initial feelings probably measured somewhere between “ehhhhh” and “maybe.”

Not that I don’t appreciate any of those things, but typically I’m looking for food that’s saucy, over the top, protein-based, fries and in general, not really considered a “healthy choice.”

Well I’m glad I chose to go because this Burger was excellent!

What To Do When You Contract Pastramitis

There’s nothing like real pastrami from a Jewish deli. When you’re in crave mode, nothing else will do.

Sure you can get a quick fix on at any deli or by purchasing some at your local grocery, but you’re really just using a band-aid to patch a hole on a damn that’s about to explode.

I’ve had a serious case of Pastramitis lately and the only cure was Ben’s Kosher Deli. Of all the old school, authentic delis in NYC, they have the absolute best chicken soup.

WHA?

You thought this post was just about pastrami. No, because who eats real pastrami without chicken soup!?! I go matzo ball + kreplach, like a balebos.

Where To Get Farm To Tray Burgers in NYC

What kind of milk do you put in your coffee? I normally use fat free. I recently purchased a bottle of Ronnybrook Farm Creamline milk and holy faddamoook!! (I just made that word up.)

That was some amazing Joe. Now I can’t stop myself.

If you like their milk, check out Creamline. They partner with Ronnybrook to offer Burgers made with locally sourced ingredients. The bacon is from Niman Ranch and the beef is from Dickson’s Farmstand Meats.

If that sounds good to you, go get your cream on!

Whoa That Cheese Melt at Juniper Bar

When you enter Juniper Bar, the first though on your mind will not be “this place is going to have some really unique and tasty Burgers.” More likely you’ll be thinking this is a great bar / restaurant in an otherwise dead part of midtown near Penn Station, typically only inhabited by old school Irish bars with subpar good.

Or something like that…

Then you’ll see the Burger menu and that’s wen everything will change!

This is the Chipotle Burger. It’s topped with tortilla chips, bacon, caramelized onions, cilantro, chipotle aioli and American Cheese instead of pepper jack. Loved the crunch of the chips and the cilantro really made it feel like it the ingredients of a tasty taco on top of my Burger.

Kudos.

You’ve Never Had Chinese Food This Good – Little Tong Noodle Shop

Top 5 restaurant meals I’ve ever had in NYC: Little Tong Noodle Shop!

Keep in mind, I’ve lived here since 1996 and I certainly have eaten my fair share meals at restaurants.

Chef Simone Tong’s Yunnan-Inspired Rice Noodle Shop in the East Village is a small but friendly restaurant offering an unbelievable menu of tasty items. Sure, you’ve had duck, tartare, noodles and wontons in the past, so have I, but not like this.

Dry Aged Duck Breast

Pork Chao Shou – Hometown Style Wonton

Mala Dan Dan Mixian – Ground Pork, Ya Cai, Pickled Celery and Mustard Seeds, Green Peppercorn Oil, Spicy Peanuts

Beef Tartare

House Pickles

Ghost Chicken

Be sure to arrive hungry, order everything above. Say hi to Chef Simone and enjoy.

The Succulent NYC French Meal Your Mouth Needs Right Now

Do you eat a lot of French cuisine? I don’t. Maybe that’s because it’s not as accessible as some other more popular cuisines, meaning not as many chefs are doing it.

More likely, there aren’t a ton of chefs doing it really well combined with most of the French food items I enjoy are big hearty dinner-type dishes that are succulent and meant to be enjoyed at a casual pace in an intimate environment.

I have a baby so that’s just not how we dine.

That aside, had an outstanding French meal made with care, attention to detail based on classic French protein dishes Dominique Bistro by Dominick Pepe.

This is their Bistro Burger, a short rib blend, topped with gruyere (one of my fave cheeses for a Burger), caramelized onions, lettuce and tomato. You have to love onions to appreciate this Burger, which I most certainly do. The flavor is reminiscent of French Onion soup over a juicy piece of beef. If that’s your jam, go eat this Burg.

Steak Tartare – beef tenderloin, quail egg, gem salad & caper berries. If you think that looks good, wait until you try it. There was not a single bite left on our plate. This dish is all about a dance of delicate flavors intertwining.

They don’t really have “apps” and “mains” as sections on the menu, but know that the tartare falls into the “les viandes” section of the menu. Translated, that’s “the meats” and the rest of the dishes listed are definitely “mains.”

Cavatelli – rabbit ragout, golden raisins, marcona almonds, ricotta. On the other hand, this robust pasta dish is found in the “les pâtes” portion of the menu. Rightfully so, that means “pasta.” Our server considered this an appetizer to split.

Are you starting to love this place?

Steak Frites – 14 oz bone in NY strip, french fries & tarragon butter. I’ve had a lot of steak frites in my life. Typically you get a rump steak or a ribeye, both of which are very delicious. Seldomly is the dish offered with a NY strip, let alone one that’s bone in. The flavors in this will make your head pop off your body! The 3 of us who split the meal sliced this down to the bone, which I almost took home to make soup with.

Ill say this, save room for the frites because they were perfectly crispy, juicy and savory, almost to a point of being buttery. In fact, no matter what you order, get those fries!!!

You need to eat here. I can’t wait to go back.

Where to Go in NYC for Great ‘Nduja Pizza

How many restaurants have you been to that serve ‘nduja pizza?

I can name one, Upland. That’s coming from a guy who eats a lot of pizza.

I feel comfortable in saying this is the best ‘nduja pizza I’ve ever had.

I also am willing to be it will be a long before you find one better.

For those of you that are not familiar with ‘nduja, its a spicy, spreadable salumi from Italy.
