Big Brother – Party With “Cast” Members

david-rev-ciancio-expert-burger-taster-burger-business-burger-famous-tv_1461david-rev-ciancio-cbs-big-brother-burger-famous-tv_1476

The story goes like this, now that I have been on 6 different networks for reality TV and appeared in countless music videos, it’s obvious, my true calling is to be an on screen mood enhancer. TV executives clearly believe that I not only represent the people but also I make TV more entertaining with my charm, passion and good looks. Why else would TLC do an entire feature on me? It’s obvious they love my bar, Idle Hands and think I am a very interesting person, whose story is worth sharing with their audience.  CBS’s has put me on their huge summer prime time priority programming for a second time! Granted, that’s more because my good buddy Adam Poch is a contestant on the show and his amazing girlfriend Fara has been great about rounding up #TeamPoch to show their support.

Cake Boss – Buddy Makes Me A Burger Cake, I Make TV Better

When I came up with the idea eat 31 Burgers in 31 days to celebrate National Hamburger Month this past May I had no intentions other than to enjoy some delicious Burgers with my friends. My motto is “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth over doing,” which probably explains the 47 Burgers I ate in 31 days to celebrate. While there were a few days when I didn’t think I would make it through the month, there were zero days that I thought it would get me on TV, let alone a spotlight on an episode of TLC’s “Cake Boss.”

But I did…

david-rev-ciancio-expert-burger-taster-burger-business-burger-famous-tv_1454

I got a call from TLC’s “Cake Boss”, Buddy (the “Cake Boss”) from Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken saw my National Hamburger Month challenge and wanted to make me a gigantic Hamburger Cake to congratulate me on my celebration of National Hamburger Month. I whisked out to NJ, had a consultation with Buddy where I told him about my love for Burgers. Buddy was going to make me a cake and then deliver to the bar I own, Idle Hands in New York City’s East Village.

david-rev-ciancio-expert-burger-taster-burger-business-burger-famous-tv_1455

Thanks to the help of Kyle and the guys upstairs at Billy Hurricanes, we had a massive Hamburger Party for the arrival of Buddy and the Cakes. Much to my surprise, Buddy and his crew actually made me not 1 but 3 whopping Hamburger Cakes. It took 4 people to get them down the stairs and onto the stage.

“Ive never met anybody so crazy about Hamburgers as this guy Rev!”
– Buddy Valastro, Cake Boss
david-rev-ciancio-expert-burger-taster-burger-business-burger-famous-tv_1462

Once there, Buddy and I cut the Cake and we surprised his crew by making them some of the Burgers from our menu in exchange for the Cakes. From there, we all celebrated stuffing ourselves with the delicious, MASSIVE Hamburger Cakes!

Thanks to Buddy, Carlos’ Bake Shop and TLC for honoring me, my SUPER AWESOME Blog, my rockin’ bar and my Glorious Pursuit of Delicious Burgers.

Thank you to my co-owners, Marc, Rob, Kyle, Roland and Billy and everyone else from Idle Hands & Billy Hurricane’s for helping to throw a ridiculous party that finally got our names on TV!

Gracias, muy mucho a Carlos Charlie who took charge of the Cake clean up.

Thank you to all of my friends, supporters and fellow foodie bloggers for coming down to celebrate with us, including Michael Pitt from “Boardwalk Empire!” You’re all Burger Famous now, congrats!

Most importantly, thank you to my amazing wife (and accomplished author) who puts up with incessant obsession with Burgers and Beer. The only thing I’m more obsessed with is her. I love you Cara.

To all the haters and people who have ever laughed at, smirked, blown off or generally show some kind of unwarranted negativity to anything Burger Conquest related…

I’M BURGER FAMOUS!!

Since it’s obvious, I make reality TV better, i’d like to put it out there, that it’s about time someone gave me my own show! To make the decision a little more obvious, I’ve put together my reality show and music video appearance career resume together.

Idle Hands Bar / Billy Hurricane’s

New York, NY 10009

THE CONQUEST
If you build it they will come, or that’s what they tell me. Makes me wonder if the Dungeons and Dragons characters ever made it to that fort I built when I was 12 … but I digress. What I am getting at here is about Burgers and Beers. There are hundreds of thousands of people that know me because of this blog and or my bar in NYC, Idle Hands. Both of which started as passion projects and were meant for me to be able share what I love with the rest of the world.

Recently Rock 101.9 RXP FM, our local rock and roll radio station reached out to Idle Hands and our upstairs neighbor Billy Hurricane’s and asked if we wanted to participate in a Burger event. Forget the fact that they are a huge media outlet that has potentially millions of listeners playing pretty much a lot of the same music we play at the bar. OF COURSE WE WANT TO DO A BURGER EVENT AT THE BAR! I didn’t start this blog or open up a bar to turn down Burgers and Beers!!!

The pitch went a little, no…exactly like this:

Wisconsin Cheese launched a website www.cheeseandburger.com for their new ‘Cheese & Burger Society.’ You may recognize the voice – its Puddy from Seinfeld… We are running a promotion for the Cheese & Burger Society to coincide with the debut oftheir ‘New York Burger’ in July that includes a 2 hour remote with the RXP street team and our DJ’s Matt Pinfield & Leslie Fram.”

“We would like a venue that is known for their burgers, would be willing to incorporate a Burger special using Wisconsin Cheese, and would let us set up in the space. I was hoping it could be at a place that would have a lot of young, hungry people in for happy hour…we would of course provide on-air and social media exposure for the venue.”

While I added in the link-outs, you can plainly understand why there was no way this Burger obsessed, Beer loving, media ham, bar owner (also, intelligent, witty, charming and successful) was going to say no! First and foremost, I love the Cheese and Burger society and have been reading their site and posts for sometime now. I love that Wisconsin Cheese decided to choose Burgers as the platform to promote their delicious product. Seems like a no brainer doesn’t it, but then why aren’t all the other cheese society’s doing it I ask you!?!

The ideas was that while the Cheese and Burger Society were promoting their 30 Burgers on their “Cheeseburgers Across America” promotion, they would stop at Idle Hands and Billy Hurricane’s in NYC. It’s not like they needed to send us the menu of Burgers to convince us but once they did. it was even more obvious that we had to say yes.

…And now the Burgers!

THE MILWAUKEE:

  • Wisconsin Brick Cheese
  • Beef Patty
  • Beer-Battered Onion Rings
  • Cream City Pale Ale Mustard
  • Red Cabbage Slaw
  • Beer-Braised Onions
  • Marbled Rye

THE NEW YORK:

  • Wisconsin Camembert Cheese
  • Beef Patty
  • Braised Beef Short Ribs
  • Black Truffle Mayonnaise
  • Pickled Red Onions
  • Sautéed Shitake Mushrooms
  • Salad Greens/Red Sorrel
  • Kaiser Roll

THE SAN FRANCISCO:

  • Wisconsin Fontina Cheese
  • Beef Patty
  • Sliced Heirloom Tomatoes
  • Guacamole
  • Sliced Red Onions
  • Bacon
  • Lettuce
  • Grilled Sourdough Slices

Hungry? So were the gads of people who showed up to get on the Wisconsin Cheeseburgers Across America train as it stopped into Idle Hands and Billy Hurricane;s for dinner and beers.

THE BURGER
While I truly wanted to gnaw into all 3, I buckled down on just one. In trying to stick with the theme, I placed an order for a Wisconsin that was washed down by a tall and tasty glass of Boulder Beer’s Sweaty Betty. I could’ve done with out the Red Cabbage Slaw, but that’s only because I’m just not a fan. The rest of the sandwich though..oh yeah!!! Two kinds of Onions, creamy Mustard, a thick and juicy fresh Beef patty and a piece of Wisconsin Brick from Widmer’s cut so big that it resembled it’s name. Brick is a mild cheese that gains in flavor as it ages and melts only to a very thick cream like state. It’s just a little smoky and almost peppery, kind of like Brie but with it’s own distinct taste. FYI – Brick cheese is called that because the Cheese Curds are pressed with clay-fired bricks. Sounds tasty right? IT WAS!

Thanks to the kitchen skills of Chef Wolfgang & Kyle from Billy Hurricane’s we were able to pull it off.  A whopping “you freaking rock” to Millicent, Matt, Leslie and everyone else from WRXP who helped us to have a super fun and delicious party. Props to Marc who made sure everyone’s glasses were full of Bourbon & Beer while waiting for their Wisconsin Cheeseburgers. Last but not least, a mighty HOWYADOIN New Yorker’s welcome to Wisconsin Cheese for letting us serve you their amazing Cheese and Burger creations. A huge crowd of hungry people showed up to get their paws on these cheese blessed Burgers and they were not let down!

Cookout NYC – An Awesome Day on Governor’s Island

Cookout NYC
http://cookoutnyc.com
Governor’s Island, NYC

Outdoor space is at a premium in a city like New York. Moreover, outdoor space where you can have a BBQ is even harder to find. Most buildings won’t allow charcoal grills and propane tanks are straight up illegal in Manhattan, so the amount of grilling here is scarce. That’s why when the fine folks at Food Karma Projects announced Cookout NYC, “the ultimate outdoor cooking and country fair event,” people flocked to get tickets.

The event was the single best event I have ever been to on Governor’s Island and far and above one the best I have ever attended outdoors in NYC. Congrats to Jimmy Carbone (of Jimmy’s No. 43) and his whole staff on putting on an event that was fun, delicious, diverse and while the Six Point beer was definitely a flowin’, the crowd was one that was more foodie, fun-loving than boozy and buzzed out. With eats from My Friend’s Mustard, the Fuhgeddaboutit BBQ crew from the Waterfront Ale House, Wild Idea Buffalo Co., Earl’s Beer & Cheese Shop, Dickson’s Farmstand as well as a Burger and a Hot Dog Cook Off, with music, sun and Mama O’s Premium Kimchi “Kimchipolooza” event, the day was packed with goodness.

Attendees were encouraged to vote for their favorites from 3 categories; Best Burger, Best Hot Dog & Best Shaved Ice while a team of official judges did the same as well. The judges, which included YOURS TRULY and a number of other well known eaters, had to chomp their way around the Island, gathering later to confer on what was the best of the best.

Here are the OFFICIAL results of the Cook Off:

PEOPLE’S CHOICE WINNERS
Best Burger
: High Point Farms
Best Hot Dog: AsiaDOG
Best Shaved Ice: Wooly’s Ice

Best Hot Dog:
My Friend’s Mustard
Best Shaved Ice: Wooly’s Ice
Best Sandwich: Fatty ‘Cue

The real winners were those who attended and everyone from Food Karma Projects who put on such an awesome event. Some of the profits from Cookout NYC will be benefiting Just Food’s Farm School.

Arthur’s Tavern – Big Brother Season 13 & Adam Poch

Big Brother
http://www.cbs.com/shows/big_brother/

A couple weeks ago I get an urgent message from my friend Adam Poch. Adam is a member of the NYC Wing-Off, the host of Active Minds Team Trivia at my bar, Idle Hands, in New York City’s East Village and a long time friend. I met up with Adam later that night. First thing he did was whip out a Non-disclosure agreement for me to sign. WTF!??! After I signed it he broke out with the news, Adam had a shot to fulfill his dream of being a contestant on CBS’s Big Brother, his 2nd favorite show after “Beverly Hills 902010.”

Adam was asking closest friends to join him at his local hang, Willie McBride’s Restaurant in Hoboken, NJ. They were going to be shooting a segment about Adam during which he might potentially get his key and be whisked away to live in the Big Brother house. Long story short, he made the show! While Adam and the rest of us moshed it up to the NJ Metal Band Apathy, the lead singer handed Adam his key announcing his acceptance into the house. Moments later, Adam was whisked away with only an hour to pack! That was it. That was the last we saw him until we gathered back at Willie McBride’s to watch the premier for “Big Brother” Season 13.

So here’s Adam, you can like his page on Facebook and follow the #TeamPoch on twitter. He really, really does love Heavy Metal, Beverly Hills 90201, Bacon & Appletinis. Adam is one of the most genuine, friendly, outgoing and funny people I have ever had the pleasure of befriending. We’re all pulling for you buddy!

You can spot me in the baseball hat cheering just over Adam’s left shoulder.

This wasn’t Adam’s first time in front of the camera however. Adam cut his TeeVeeth on episode #3 of Grill ‘Em All’s “Victory Lap.” See him at 1:18 excitedly talking about the unbelievable “Pantera Burger.”

Since this is a blog about Burgers and I always try to stay on topic…

Arthur’s Tavern
http://www.arthurstavern.com/
237 Washington St.
Hoboken, NJ 07030

THE CONQUEST
Arthur’s Tarvern serves the Burger that started the blog and it never disappoints, Arthur’s Tavern Famous Burger in Hoboken, NJ is the best Burger in NJ. Well, at least for now it is but that’s about to change. Arthur’s has recently been sold and soon to be closing shop.  Adam was one of the first people to praise this magical Burger to me and therefore is, in part, responsible for my Glorious Pursuit of Delicious Burgers. Before taking off to join “Big Brother” Adam had wanted us to rally up an go eat a Burger at Arthur’s before they shut down but he didn’t get that chance. Bram, Nona, Marc and I thought it was only right to crush one before hitting the premier party.

THE BURGER
Seriously, this is one of the best Burgers I have ever had. It’s juicy, delicious, huge, fresh and it’s only $5.95!! You can read any of my prior musings about it if you want a more in depth review but I’d suggest instead getting yourself to Hoboken, NJ and eating one before it’s gone forever.

The West 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe – Outdoor Flocking for LaFrieda

The West 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe
http://www.boatbasincafe.com
West 79th Street & The Hudson River
New York, NY 10024

THE CONQUEST
When the sun comes out from behind the winter’s clouds and the temperature heats up enough for jackets to come off, New Yorkers entertainment needs focus towards the outside. In a city where we are in big ass buildings all day long and beach front property, well doesn’t exist, we search out any outdoor / open-air venue we can find. One such place is The West 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe.

Located right off the Hudson River, facing New Jersey, just at the West end of 79th street, you’ll find a very popular outdoor NYC refuge. The West 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe is a casual restaurant placed in an open-air cafe whose ceiling is the West Side Highway. One can choose to sit along side the bike path, in the covered dining area or in the back patio, that is if one can find an open table! On nights and weekends, weather permitting, the place is banging with many a sun seeker looking for outdoor food and drinks. The menu is simple, focusing mostly on picnic / cookout foods like Hot Dogs, Grilled Chicken, Salads and of course, Burgers.

In fact, the Boat Basin, as it’s popularly known, doesn’t have just any old Burger patty, their ground beef is supplied by none other than LaFrieda Wholesale Meat Purveyors. Pat’s meats are world renowned for quality, freshness and taste and quite frankly, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Boat Basin proudly used his product. While on a visit recently to the Boat Basin for a meeting with my pal Brian from the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, he talked me into eating on. What that really means is Brian said “let’s have a Burger,” and I said “OK.”

THE BURGER
The Burger at the Boat Basin Cafe comes on a Sesame Bun with Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickle and with a side of Potato Chips served in a plastic basket. There are no frills here, just simple, yet tasty, picnic foods. The fresh ground Beef is thick and tastes exactly as a Burger cooked on a grill should, Beefy and with that taste reminiscent of family cook outs. The produce is fresh and crisp, the Cheddar Cheese is tangy and savory and the Bun is soft.  No real surprises here, The West 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe Burger tastes like that backyard BBQ Burger that our pops used to make for us when we were kids.

FYI – They also have Sierra Nevada at the Boat Basin, lots of it…and it does a fine job of washing down LaFrieda Burgers!

The Burger Garage – 2 Reasons to Get Rid of your CDs

The Burger Garage
http://theburgergarage.com
25-36 Jackson Avenue
Long Island City, NY 11101

THE CONQUEST
It started in 1992 with Mr. Bungle’s self-titled debut and Mother Love Bone’s self-titled album compilation. Those were the first 2 CDs I ever bought. That launched an obsession that lasted nearly two decades with collecting compact discs. Over the years my collection has moved 10 times in 3 different states and amassed to a a size of just around 3500 pieces.

In May of 2000, one of my favorite movies of all times, “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure” was released on DVD and I ran out to the store to get it. I absolutely had to see the deleted scene with Amazing Larry’s floating hair trick! Funny thing though, I didn’t own a DVD player until months later. However, the idea of getting more from my favorite movies became an 11 year obsession with collection director’s cuts, deleted scenes, special editions and all sorts of DVDs. My collection eventually grew to about 300 pieces including 3 copies of Steve Martin’s “The Jerk,” the only movie for which I also own the official poster.

Several years ago, I picked up all my stuff and did something I said I would never do; I moved into Manhattan. I fell in love with a girl who is now my amazing wife and moved into her apartment. I took all of my personal belongings that I didn’t “need” and put them into a storage space in Jersey City. Among those “things” were my entire CD and DVD collection, at the time. The thought being, if I needed any of them, I could just go grab them out of the storage space. Well in all those years, I know the exact amount of CDs and DVDs I have gone to collect from the space since they went into lock-up…ZERO.

I thought I would want them, I thought one day we would move into a big house and I could put them all back on display. My pride and joy, my grand music collection, the item I most obsessed about for more than half of my life, had all been converted digitally to fit conveniently in a tiny little iPod and a hard drive. No more skipping, no more having to loan out rarities, no more having to carry around a bag full of discs everywhere I went and most importantly, no more heavy lifting  every time we had to move.

After recently moving out of my office, I came to a decision that I also never thought would happen…it was time to go digital and get rid of my cumbersome media collection. What was the point? I never go to get any of it, I’m paying good money to keep it in storage and hell, I haven’t owned an actual stereo in 5 years!! But what to do with it?

I don’t have the time or patience to sell it on eBay. There’s no way I am going to stand around at flea market hawking it. I certainly don’t have the time to go and digitize all of it myself and there is no way in hell I am going to pay someone, even at $1 per disc, to do it for me. This collection was hanging around my proverbial neck like a proverbial albatross. But it had to go.

That’s when a targeted Internet search landed me on iPodMeister. They are a company that will take your CDs and then sell them in less fortunate countries. All you have to do is package them up and mail them in. From there, you have the option to have all your titles digitized and then based on how many of them you turn in, iPodMeister will send you back your choice of digital devices. You can choose from iPods, iPads, iPhones, Droids, Kindles, Nooks and more. A few days later, DVDs with your entire music library and your brand new digital media device shows up at your house. No more bulky CDs, no more large DVDs, just a nice little, small and easy to store collection of music and something to play it on.

Sounds too good to be true right? I did the research and it’s all real. With stores on CNET, AM New York, Mashable, the Consumerist and more, I had to believe it was real. What was even better was when I discovered that the company is located in Long Island City, NY, just over the Queensboro Bridge and they accept drop offs!! Are you kidding me? Spend hours and hours and hours digitizing CDs and then more and more and more hours packaging them up and then taking them to the post office, or rent a van for $90, throw them in the back and drive them to Queens. HELLO! (Note, I ALWAYS use CC Rentals when I need a van in NYC.)

and that’s EXACTLY what I did.

BEFORE                                           AFTER

A couple of hours later and 20 years of my life were sitting on a dock, waiting to be converted and then be shipped overseas. This process took be the better part of a Saturday afternoon but it was totally easier and quicker than any of the alternatives. I had developed quite a hunger moving all those heavy crates and boxes. That’s when I remember something I had seen in George Motz’s “Hamburger GPS.” It was a recommendation for a Burger joint in LIC and seriously, when was I going to be in Long Island City again with a vehicle?

As property in Manhattan gets more and more expensive as well as more and more scarce, the outer boroughs are having an amazing revolution in real estate and resulting local businesses. Sure, sure, everyone and their wiry mustached, deep-v t-shirt wearing, uncombed brother are moving to Brooklyn, there’s also a nice modernization happening just north of it, over the Pulaski bridge in a section of Queens known as Long Island City. As high rises go up, places to eat follow and one such restaurant that’s making the neighborhood a little more desirable is The Burger Garage.

Brothers Jim and Adam Pileski, from the same family behind the famous steakhouse, the Palm, founded the Burger Garage in 2009. The concept was to open an auto-body themed, fast-casual Burger joint with high quality ingredients but a limited menu. The bro’s Pileski use a Pat LaFrieda supplied custom blend of 100% Black Angus, USDA Certified beef with no hormones or antibiotics ground daily as well as all real cheese. All of their produce is delivered fresh daily and their shakes are made from hand dipped premium ice cream.

Conveniently, The Burger Garage is only about a dozen blocks away from the iPodMeister offices which took me approximately 3 minutes to drive to in my CC Rental van. I swear none of the above paid me to talk about them but I would happily make trades in the future!! HA

THE BURGER
Pop into the Burger Garage, place your order at the register and grab a seat in a booth, or like I did, at the counter where you can get a view of the line cooks prepping your lunch. The car theme gives the place a roadside American feel which is something I know George Motz loves. And speaking of George Motz, right inside the door I found a magazine rack with the summer of 2011 issue of Edible Queens. The cover story, entitled “Burger Kings” was a story written by the Motz-man himself about the best Burgers in Queens. Sounded like great reading material while the Pileski bro’s cooked up my order. I won’t spoil the reading by telling you which are the 5 but The Burger Garage is one of them.

The first thing I noticed when my order arrived was the OBSCENE amount of French Fries and Onion Strings. I had gotten a 1/2 & 1/2 order which with the small cost of $2.70, I didn’t expect much to come. A 1/4 & 1/4 order would’ve been more than enough but The Burger Garage doesn’t offer that as an option so prepare for French Fry / Onion String overload. Both of them are hot, fresh and not salty at all. The Onion Strings are like gourmet Durkee Onions. You will enjoy them both.

The Burger Garage makes a short-order California style Burger ala In-N-Out that comes wrapped in a single sheet of restaurant paper-foil. Get yourself a “B.G. Burger,” their signature offering, a 4 ounce patty which comes on a squishy Potato Roll with American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickle & “The B.G. Sauce.” Everything, and I mean everything about this Burger was great. It’s essentially a high-end, fast-food Burger served at an affordable price. The Cheese is almost creamy once it melts on the Burger adding just enough dairy flavor to accent the Burger itself. The fresh produce is crispy and clean to the taste. As for the sauce, it’s just a little sweet and just a little spicy but used in just the right amount so as to only accent and not at all take away focus from the freshly ground beef. The Pat LaFrieda Beef blend used at the Burger Gargage is juicy, flavorful and just a touch of sweet to mix in with the savory. I loved it so much that I had to get another right after I finished the first one!

They don’t serve any alcohol but they do have Abita Root Beer on tap and if you choose any other beverage available there, you lost. I had 2 full glasses of it and my only wish was that it came in a frosty mug, not a plastic cup. None the less, it’s an amazing soda.

The simplicity of the Burger Garage Burger is what allows your taste buds to focus on all the fresh, quality ingredients it’s made with.

Two Door Tavern – If Brooklyn Keeps Making Burgers This Good

Two Door Tavern
http://www.twodoortavern.com
116 N. 5th St
Brooklyn, NY 11211

THE CONQUEST
The bar and restaurant community in NYC is pretty tight. Much like any other industry, there is a lot of networking amongst the owners and employees. We all win together when we can create a better neighborhood experience. When Jeremy Bridgman, one of our regulars at Idle Hands, announced his new bar & restaurant, the Two Door Tavern was opening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Marc and I made a note to head across the water and check it out. When the rain started in during the Big Apple BBQ Block Party, we hopped the L train and made our way out to hipsterville.

Amongst the beards, tight jeans and interesting outfits you’ll find in the uber-hip part of Brooklyn known as Williamsburg, you’ll also find equally un-assuming Two Door Tavern. A significant portion of their build out was done using re-sourced materials from an old farmhouse, an artillery base and even the George Washington Bridge. This slightly rustic and relaxed tavern, complete with working fireplace, offers up a selection of mixed cocktails, 40+ craft beers and a menu filled with feel good foods done in a modern and interesting way as well as a very affordable weekend brunch menu. With all the yummy sounding eats like Cheesesteak Spring Rolls, Homemade Pigs In A Blanket, “Brooklyn” Rigatoni, Tuscan Grilled Cheese & Strawberry Fields salad, you’ll find yourself having a hard time deciding what to order.

To solve this problem, I suggest taking a couple of friends with you, ordering a number of items and create your own tasting menu!

THE BURGER
When I asked Jeremy what were the house specialties, he practically read us the whole menu! A few key words sung clear into my ears based on the Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold, a Belgian Style Pale Ale that I had planned on drinking as a pairing.

We started off with a trio of apps:
– Southern Fried Dill Pickle Chips – Served with Avocado Ranch dipping Sauce.
– Homemade Pigs in a Blanket – Mini Beef and Chicken Sausages in Puff Pastry Crescent Rolls with Brown Mustard and Spicy Ketchup.
– Two Door Macaroni & Cheese – Our signature Three Cheese recipe with Crisp Parmesan Cracker Topping.

I find Pickles to be disgusting so I didn’t try any. However, everyone else seemed to agree that they were great. The Homemade Pigs in a Blanket on the other hand, I couldn’t wait to try. The light and airy puff Pastry delicately cradled a Hot Dog-esque fresh sausage that was only made better with a light ride in the Brown Mustard (Ketchup be damned!). These were so good that they have made it impossible for me to enjoy anyone else’s version of the same dish. The Macaroni & Cheese, a dish that is usually quite heavy, was actually, by comparison, was light and mild. Bonus points for being made with Shell Pasta, crock pot cooked dish is a great sharable item from the menu.

Jeremy wasn’t about to let me get by without order a Burger, but based on his heavy recommendation and amazing description of The Two Door Tavern’s Roast Beef on Weck, it was obvious that we had to split one. “Our House Specialty! Slow-roasted Roast Beef on a homemade Kummelweck roll. Topped with natural Au Jus & Horseradish Sauce.” This juicy and freshly made sandwich is without a doubt is going to become a neighborhood favorite that will drive people into the restaurant. There’s no way this juicy and just short of being messy Sandwich could be served on a Roll that was less sturdy then a Weck. But not only does it have a functional service to uphold it also tastes great especially with the cracked Sea Salt on top.

At the Two Door Tavern, the respect for the Burger is so high that the Sandwich has its own category on the menu rather than just becoming line items in a list of other offerings. The top listed Burger, and the one Jeremy suggests the most is the Uptown Bourbon BBQ Burger, Sautéed Onions and Peppers, Bourbon BBQ Sauce & melted Cheddar Cheeses. You could pretty much use the word “Bourbon” in the recipe of any food item and I would be interested in tasting it. Before even taking a bite, I knew the Chef really cared about their Burgers. The giveaway, toppings on both sides of the Burger. Allow me to confirm, this is one great Burger, carefully designed for maximum appreciation.  The patty is made every day from fresh Ground Beef before making it’s way into a complete Burger from. The hearty Burger has a backyard grill taste with a nice salt and pepper crust. Even the Cheese, Lettuce, Peppers and Onions are fresh and tasty. The sauce, well let’s just say that I’d love to taste this as a dip for some Chicken Fingers because it’s tangy and nice.

The food at the Two Door Tavern, specifically the Uptown Bourbon BBQ Burger is worth traveling across a river (or two) to eat!
